In return we would like to be able to run ads on selected popular Community Sites but, as stated above, we would like to re-invest in the sites in a number of ways. This is the "nope" point for me....

Thanks. Indeed, you are right. "Open" membership should not be enforced. But the site needs to be publicly accessible, i.e. not "private".

I would gladly talk to people who run individual sites and discuss if we could run ads in any form or not. I agree that some types of sites (including SCP) require a much more delicate approach....

I upgraded to a PRO account so that I have control over the adds that are being displayed and if they are displayed at all. For this reason, I will probably not switch my wiki to a Community Site...
